The Fantastic5Point0 Collective: Arterial
The Fantastic5Point0 Collective is a collective of artists that includes Lynn Cociani, Michelle Gazely, Mo Hamilton, Suzo Hickey and Sarah Northcott. All of these artists are based in communities along Highway 16, from Prince George to Prince Rupert. Arterial is an exhibition whose title makes reference to the through road that connects this group of artists to one another.
Each member of the collective maintains their own art practice, and this exhibition reflects that through the inclusion of works depicting diverse subject matter and techniques. A collection of landscapes, abstracts, and portraiture work together to assert the unique perspective of each artist, while simultaneously pointing towards the connection between them. Within each painting is a hidden “through line,” about 4.5 inches from the bottom of the work; a subtle artery throughout the exhibition.
Arterial portrays the experiences and inspirations of these five artists, while also speaking to the resilience of artists in Northern BC, and the importance of finding one’s community of peers.
