Frank (Herbert Franklin) Palmer
RCA ASA CSPWC (1921 - 1990)Frank Palmer was born in Calgary and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Palmer Studied at various institution including The Ontario College of Art in Toronto, The Vancouver School of Art, Art Centre School in Los Angeles as well as attending art classes in Calgary. From 1945-48, Frank Palmer worked for the Cleland-Kent Engraving Company in Vancouver. He returned to Calgary and from 1949-58 worked as a free-lance artist. During this time, in 1954, he was honored with the Jesse Dow Award for his work in watecolour. In 1958 he began his career as a instructor in commercial and fine arts at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, a position he held until 1981.Frank Palmer passed away in 1990. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy, the Alberta Society of Artists, and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, and frequently exhibited with them. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate, and public collections.
