landscape painters of her generation, started as an abstract painter. As a result, her paintings have absorbed something of the colour spread and patterned layout of colour abstraction from the '60s and '70s. Barbara's participation in artist workshops in Canada, Europe, United States and Africa, with internationally acclaimed abstract painters, continues to influence her color field work that we see in her landscape based paintings today. Although she has traveled widely, Ballachey works primarily in the Alberta foothills near Calgary.
