Arts Commons Window Galleries, Beneath, Site & Studio, Mutable Immobiles, and I Am So Emulsional," 2018
Artist reception at Happenings #11 on Mezzanine Level of Arts Commons on Monday, February 12 from 6-9 pm
Arts Commons showcases four unique exhibits in the Window Galleries this December 1 – February 23, 2018 from artists Cameron Young, Cody Cox, Heather Close, and Sebastian Jarmula that explore unique photographic techniques, the relationship of structures, our environment, and our city to us.
Beneath uses a unique technique of submerging the camera underwater and allowing the water itself to impact directly on the image taken. This approach creates wholly unexpected and surprising results, a reveals an alien underwater world.
Site & Studio uses psychogeography and topoanalysis to demonstrate how space has a psychological impact on the individual. Cox creates drawings that develop a dialog between his conscious and subconscious reactions to the spatial experience.
Mutable Immobiles demonstrates the haunting beauty of structures in a state of gradual ruination. Using overgrowth architectural spaces and singular rooms, Close explores the tension in the relationship between man and nature.
I Am So Emulsional is a trip through death and decay, and the life on the way. Drawing from his memories of idyllic Calgarian summers, Jarmula explores emotional attachment to narratives and our memories. His pieces provide a loose and colourful break from preconception.
The Window Galleries at Arts Commons consist of seven display spaces which provide exhibition opportunities for two dimensional and sculptural works, running in three month intervals and are open to all emerging and professional artists and collectives.
