Beyond the Archive: Ground Zero Printmakers Studio 1989-201
The Victoria Arts Council will re-open TUESDAY 16 JUNE.Gallery hours remain as before, Tuesday through Saturday from noon to five.
The current exhibition is BEYOND THE ARCHIVE: Ground Zero Printmakers, 1989-2019... we had initially opened BEYOND THE ARCHIVE at the end of February in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the print studio but were then forced to close our doors two weeks later. This will be the last two weeks to see this exciting exhibition of new, old, and related works from Victoria's active printmaking studio.
The Victoria Arts Council is thrilled to be working with Ground Zero Printmakers Studio on an exhibition celebrating thirty years of studio activity.
The exhibition brings together prints from the Ground Zero archive and newly created 'response' prints by current studio artists arising from an investigation of the historical work. Using the archived print collection as a point of reference, artists were invited to create new works, in dialogue with their predecessors. At the heart of this project is the artist's investigation into their deep connection to all other artists and histories.
Beyond the Archive provides a powerful opportunity to showcase the rich history of Ground Zero and the diversity of creative imagination in contemporary printmaking in the region.
All are invited to the opening reception, artist talks, and Q&A demos, and to the neighbouring GZPS studio located in Victoria's historic Chinatown.
