Artist statement:
I am mesmerized by chance encounters and dwell in the awe and wonder of the Canadian landscape. I endeavor to emulate memories of splendor and possibility in the sky and land around us. To create my hard-edge abstract paintings, I intuitively handle acrylic paint, palette knives, brushes and masking tape to create precise linear and geometric shapes to captivate the varying movement, mood and energy of our natural world.
I find inspiration, joy and connection in brief extraordinary moments, such as northern lights, sunsets, changing seasons, looming storms and sunny days.
Through each painting, I feel more connected to who I am and my surroundings. The process involves the opposition of strong, decisive marks to form a vaguely familiar location.
I experience great anticipation to see and interpret ordinary places in a fresh, new context.
