Sven Marquardt and Marcel Dettmann, "Black Box," 2018
The Polygon Gallery, the Goethe-Institut, and AFM INC present Black Box—an installation by German photographer and famed Berghain doorman Sven Marquardt, featuring an accompanying sound component by Marcel Dettmann.
8:00pm-9:00pm Artist Talk: Sven Marquardt
9:00pm-11:00pm Black Box performance
Born in East Berlin, Marquard was a defining part of the emerging Punk, New Wave and arts scene in the Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood from the mid 1980s. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, he halted his work as a photographer and immersed himself in the reunited city’s rising night club scene. Since 2004 Marquardt has worked as a doorman at the Ostgut club and the famous Berghain, and since 2007 significantly co-defined the image of Berghain’s OstGut Ton record label. Lately returning to photography, his first illustrated book, Zukünftig Vergangen, was published by Mitteldeutscher Verlag in 2010.
