Artist Statement
I am currently working on a series of landscapes in oil, using negative painting techniques on black canvas. (This is my black or dark period) But I must add this is one of the more enjoyable periods of my life and is not actually dark or black at all. I am also using negative glazing techniques on my latest line of porcelain ware which has motivated me to continue throwing again. It’s great having more than one medium to occupy the mind and body for when one is at a low period in one medium another medium can be inspiring and uplifting. Going back and forth can be a challenge but most of the time it’s just plain fun. I just wish there were more hours in the day for me to play.
Ron James Chandler
Ron sometimes goes by R.J. or Ronnie James. Born in Brampton, Ontario, he is a self-taught artist. Ron studied art in high school where he won first place in sculpture in Canada for three years in a row. He went to Europe to play Hockey in the 70’s, where he also studied painting and sculpture techniques of the masters. Ron had a studio in Peterborough, Ontario, where I was commissioned to paint and sculpt, for the city of Toronto. My work is in private collections, restaurants, and Holiday INN. I taught life painting , drawing, architecture, drafting, and sculpture techniques in Canada and the USA. I am fortunate enough to have a studio in Florida and Kelowna (Potters Addict Ceramic Art Centre) where I paint in oils, water colour, acrylic, and sculpt with anything I can get my hands on. I will be teaching a sculpture class in clay at Potters Addict starting in the fall.
Marilynn Bury
Marilynn Bury was born in Edmonton, Alberta, but has called Kelowna, BC her home since 1971. It is the beautiful Okanagan Valley where Marilynn has been inspired by the natural surroundings and abundance of fruits and wonderful orchards.
She enjoys painting in both oils and acrylics, depending on the subject. It gives her great pleasure to see a painting emerge. She likes using vibrant, warm and sunny tones in an impressionistic style, especially in her signature fruit paintings. Marilynn’s background as an Interior Decorator has given her a great love and sense of colour.
As an Active status member of the Federation of Canadian Artists in Kelowna, BC, she is surrounded by a wonderful and inspiring group of artists and friends. Art has always been a part of Marilynn’s life. She started drawing as a child moving into oil painting and then to watercolours and later acrylics. Her earliest subjects were still lifes and people. Over the years, Marilynn has developed a notable style with her large and textured fruit paintings. Her newest interest is discovering the wonderful world of painting landscapes and street scenes. Although she considers herself self-taught, she has taken workshops from various distinguished artists over the years. She has also completed courses at Okanagan University.
Marilynn’s work can be found at Picture Perfect and New Moon Galleries, and during the summer months, The Gallery in Peachland and the Barn Gallery in Oyama. She also sells her work privately as well as creating unique pieces by commission.
