AGA, "borderLINE: 2020 Biennial of Contemporary Art," 2020
Since its inception in 1996, the Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art has brought national attention to Alberta’s art scene, helped promote provincial artists and has presented new and exciting works by over 200 Alberta artists. For the first time, the Art Gallery of Alberta is thrilled to expand the Alberta Biennial beyond provincial borders to jointly develop, and then concurrently present, the 2020 Biennial of Contemporary Art exhibition with Saskatoon’s Remai Modern. The exhibition borderLINE will feature the works of over 30 artists across two provinces and five treaty territories on the theme of ‘Borders’. A border defines an edge. It marks beginnings and endings, a line between yours and mine, between in and out. The 2020 Biennial of Contemporary art calls attention to how borders are expressed, who can enforce them and what is confined by their limits.
