Salmon Arm Art Gallery, "Breaking the Binary," 2021
Salmon Arm Art Gallery is pleased to present Breaking the Binary, an exhibition featuring twelve 2SLGBTQ+ artists exploring the binaries in gender and sexuality in contemporary society. The theme of Breaking the Binary can be found across the 2021 Salmon Arm Pride Project Arts and Awareness Festival, with a diverse offering of digital and in-person events between October 18 and 24. The exhibition invites artists to continue this conversation in a meaningful way. Photographers, painters, filmmakers and sculptors share their stories through art, showing that gender and sexuality exist on more of a three-dimensional spectrum rather than a binary.
The opening reception is Saturday, October 16 from 11am to 1pm, with refreshments and live music. All PHOs will be followed, masks are mandatory inside the gallery. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm, and admission is by donation.
The Artist Talk will be held on Thursday, November 18 at 2pm, as PHOs allow.
Breaking the Binary is generously sponsored by Shuswap Film Society, ProAir Heating and Cooling, and H&R Block. The Art Gallery is grateful for the ongoing support of the City of Salmon Arm, BC Arts Council and the Provincial of British Columbia through Direct Access.
