“Mettle” pays homage to the strength of character, grit and perseverance of everyone affected by the pandemic. This piece speaks to the ability to push through the darkness, to remember the good qualities that abound. There is a lot of darkness, depth, detail and scars in this piece. It has survived chainsaws, insects, weather and fire. It stands here, preserved, a monument of sorts, testimony to the resilience of nature, of which we are a part. – Bruce Edmundson
