Artists for ArtMart (Fifth Edition) vending machine sought
Submission Deadline: December 3, 2021
Art in a vending machine? While it’s not something you would normally think of, the concept has been a successful one for the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. And now, they’ve teamed up with Kelowna Art Gallery to launch a new edition in 2022.
The Gallery is looking to their members (and the public, as future members) for proposals. The vending machine will offer original work by local artists for purchase for $5.00 - $50.00. Works can be created in any number of artistic mediums with themes that focus on community engagement.
“We encourage artists to think outside of the box and to dream big while creating something little,” says Christine May, Curator at the Kelowna Art Gallery. “Our hope is that the ArtMart provides a vehicle for artists to conjure up something new, engage and delight our visitors, and financially support local artists.”
Artists selected for participation in the project will receive an honorarium, production funds to assist with the creation of work, and a commission on all sales of work through the project.
Lorna McParland, Artistic Director at the Alternator, adds, “While we have had previous editions of the ArtMart here, this will be the first time we have hosted the vending machine at a neighbouring location. We’re excited about this partnership with the Kelowna Art Gallery and can’t wait to see what their members come up with.”
The deadline for submissions is December 3, 2021. For submission criteria, forms, and additional information, visit www.kelownartgallery.com/artmart.
