We are beyond excited to welcome the incredible KRISTINA SOBSTAD to our gallery.

Kristina’s work involves abstracted landscape paintings on canvas which explore a culturally relevant palette. Pulling colours from the pocket of adjacent communities set against surrounding landscapes in her east coast surroundings, she seeks to embody movement in her work. The synthesis of sound, form and colour results in an unexpected juxtaposition; a contrast accentuated by her strikingly beautiful expressionist tendencies and gesture most akin to drawing or sketching.

Kristina describes her process as intuitive, a full immersion into the natural environment. These are experiences she defines as:

“full-blown love affairs that last weeks if not months where I get close and intimate: going deep on the trails and getting covered in mud, burrs and swamp; wading the tidal pools and palpitating muscles to find pearls; seeking out the hidden through patience and quiet respect like the bioluminescent algae on Middle Cove Beach where thousands of people have spent time and very few have seen.”

Her work may be found in private collections as well as permanent collections across the world.
