Opening Reception: First Friday, March 3rd
Celebrating Canadian Women Artists will include some 50 paintings offering an evolutionary view of women artists through the decades and generations, beginning in the 1920s and continuing to the present.
The exhibition presents a unique opportunity to see important paintings from private collections that have not been on public view for decades.
Mayberry Fine Art is one of the few private galleries in Canada that can provide this broad view of Canadian women’s significant contribution to the national art scene by assembling this retrospective of historical and contemporary art.
More than half the artworks are available for sale, while the rest are on loan from local collectors for this special exhibition.
From coast to coast to coast, Canada’s acclaimed women artists – historical and contemporary -- hail from every region of the country.
The Mayberry exhibition also includes historical works by Molly Lamb Bobak, Maud Lewis, Prudence Heward, Rita Letendre and Sybil Andrews .
Contemporary artists featured include Meghan Hidebrand, Shuvinai Ashoona, Diana Thorneycroft and Gathie Falk, age 95, a former Winnipegger who is one of Canada’s most acclaimed contemporary artists.
Celebrating Canadian Women Artists coincides with International Women's Day on March 8.
