Celebrating Women in the Arts
to
Scott Gallery 10411 124 St, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 3Z5
“The genesis for the idea came about from conversations with Angela Bugera Matheson and Rachel Bouchard about collaborating on projects occasionally. We often talk about our experiences as gallerists and when gender is a factor in our decisions and our actions (which it, arguably, almost always is). Should we trial a 1st project focusing on the production of women artists? We agreed yes, and we welcome you to this exhibition.
I can say honestly that I have thrived as a North American woman reaching adulthood after the Second Wave of feminism. And, I’m grateful to the women who make culture and think about society in the public realm and to the women who worked to make change within spheres of influence closer to home.
This exhibition is a chance to see the range of production from the women artists represented at Scott Gallery: not homogeneity, but differences in artistic métier, choice of tradition and subject, and personal experience – this is the reality. Our branch of the exhibition will focus on the women artists of Scott Gallery and we’ve invited 7 guest artists to contribute work for the show.”
