Charles Putnins, "ICELAND, A Journey into the Land of Giants," 2017
Reception: October 6, 7-10pm
Iceland is Nature in its early stages. Earth, wind, fire, and water, four simple elements of Nature combine to create unimaginable beauty. It could be the deafening roar and sheer power of Dettifoss, the incredible cloudscapes that constantly change, the fantastical landscape of Landmannalaugar, the volcanic vents on Hverir’s moonscape, or the simple song of stones being caressed by the incoming waves on a peaceful black sand beach. These simple elements exhibit a force that evokes a sense of awe, and a sense of humility in us all. It shows us that we are merely a small part of a greater whole, the Universe. And we are all dwarfed by its strength and magnificence. Iceland is one place on the planet where man’s insignificance in the face of the grandeur of the Universe is most evident.
This collection of images is an attempt to capture that awesomeness, that beauty, and that force which surrounds us and courses through our lives daily…to make one aware, for awareness is all.
Charles Putnins has had a lifelong passion with photography. This has led him to create a body of work concentrating on the grandeur, beauty and spiritual presence of the natural world. Although he has developed the majority of his craftsmanship skills in photography on his own, he has a formal education in photography and is a graduate of the Masters of Professional Studies in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
