Chris Brooks: Water Features is a collection of works inspired by encounters with waterways the world over. Captivated by the rivers that carve their way through Alberta, Brooks began experimenting with different resins for their ability to retain fluid features in a solid state. Sculptural in the way that handmade river elements are embedded, the works retain a distinct painterly quality with the tinted layers of resin designed to add movement and depth.
Partnered with the Alberta EcoTrust, Brooks has committed to donating 10% of sales to their foundation to back their efforts in supporting the people and projects that protect the natural systems Albertans rely on for life and prosperity.
About the Artis tChris Brooks’ work finds its foundation in an exploration of materials and process to create one of a kind landscape sculpture. Brooks built his skills and understanding of contemporary art at the Ontario College of Art and Design graduating in 2004. He found work as a moldmakers assistant in an industrial setting before choosing to move west to Calgary. After an extended hiatus and growing a family he decided to reenter creative spheres.Reception with artist in attendance (free admission, everyone welcome, not accessible)Sunday, August 18, 12:00 - 3:00pm
