Cody Kazimer’s work is full of tortured grotesque figures painted in exuberant and lush colour. It includes depictions of internal organs and external anxiety.
Cody Kazimer was born in Ottawa in 1991 to Ruth and Barry Kazimer, who nurtured him in the creative arts from a young age. Ruth Kazimer was highly proficient in drafting and design and encouraged unhindered artistic growth in her son. Ruth and Barry Kazimer, being members of the Royal Canadian Air Force for most of Cody’s life, instilled discipline and focus in the artist, especially in his fine arts practice. Sgt. Ruth Kazimer, and MCpl Barry Kazimer were adept and skilled members of the armed forces, and imbued Cody with strong mother and father figures and shaped his discovery of the hierarchical and gender inequalities that would later be the focus of his thesis work at the University of Manitoba.
