Contemporary Calgary, "Collider," 2019
Taking a cue from Particle Accelerators, Collider serves as a catalyst for collaborative experimentation and discovery through a collision of ideas and actions. This inaugural project employs a peer nomination process to invite 30 local artists to make Contemporary Calgary’s and the former Centennial Planetarium their studio and community hub. Visitors to Collider will encounter a dynamic and vibrant space of creativity and collaboration in an open studio, long term residency environment that responds to our City's appetite for inclusion and diversity while showcasing the extraordinary talent in our own backyard. Generating new work for Contemporary Calgary’s fall exhibition Planetary, residents are asked to consider ideas ranging from galactic exploration and speculative futures to meaningful memories triggered by the historic context of the former Planetarium.

Dynamic Environment Artist Talk with Peter Von Tiesenhausen
In partnership with the City of Calgary, Contemporary Calgary welcomes Dynamic Environment artist, Peter von Tiesenhausen to the Centennial Planetarium to discuss his most recent works as part of the Watershed+ artist-in-residence with Calgary Water Services. As one in a group of invited artists, Von Tiesenhausen responded to the challenges stemming from the most recent Calgary flood in collaboration with city engineers and Parks, on a riverbank stabilization project in Riverdale. As a separate project within his residency he commissioned two sound artists Jen Reimer and Magnus Tiesenhausen and cinematographer David McGregor, to create a sound and video piece in a temporarily drained (for maintenance) underground reservoir. Von Tiesenhausen will present these two Calgary based works in the context of his larger body of work.
