Glen P Sutherland’s new exhibit Conversation Pieces will be holding an opening reception to the public at 7:00 pm on April 6th, 2017.
Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis student, Franchesca Hebert-Spence confronts objectification of women’s bodies through the use of various craft media. Frustrated by the silence surrounding the female experience, Hebert-Spence uses personal narratives as a catalyst to create artwork.
These process-based projects involve deconstructing every day materials such as underwear or feminine care products. Through her artistic lens, Hebert-Spence aims to create opportunities for people to engage with dialogues around body, gender, and space. Conversations Pieces aims to facilitate space for meaningful dialogue about the internalization of social pressures that concern gender. Conversation Pieces will run from April 6th, 2017 to April 15th, 2017.
The Glen P Sutherland Gallery is the exhibition space used by Visual and Aboriginal Fine Arts students who are enrolled in the Honours program. Exhibitions run throughout the academic year, showcasing students’ work and providing invaluable experience.
The Glen P Sutherland’s hours are Wednesday to Monday, 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The Glen P Sutherland is located at 2021 Victoria Avenue. Exhibitions are free to attend and all are welcome!
