This exhibition explores ideas of a self portrait through ideas of: the detritus we gather in our lives, objects that represent self, envisioning a future, and the context(s) that influence our idea of self by five Red Deer artists aged 16-17. These youth artists had the opportunity to work with local practicing artists to explore ideas of portraiture through a variety of artistic styles and media while incorporating the themes into their work. The intention was to create an opportunity for a thriving creative environment and an intercultural exchange.
About the Artists:
There are five artists participating in this exhibit, all the artists are high school students from Red Deer who share a passion for art and a determination to improve their skills. They have dedicated 4 weeks to exploring concepts of detritus, meaningful objects, envisioning, and contexts that influence our definition of self. Each student committed over 8 hours trying various techniques, working with a multitude of media, and learning from different artists. All five of these incredible students has challenged themselves and their abilities to create this unique and exciting exhibit
