Del Hillier, "!!! !!! !!!," 2018
Blackfoot Truckstop Diner parking lot (1840 - 9 Avenue SE)
Reception + Brunch / Sunday, September 23 @ 2:00pm
Inspired while walking along a lone highway in Demmit, Alberta, in "!!! !!! !!!", the artist throws his fist into the air and bids for a honk from passing long haul truckers. The work is composed of a video montage of semi-trucks appearing over the horizon and greeting Hillier with each of their unique horns. The film is presented inside a freight trailer in the parking lot of the beloved Blackfoot Truckstop Diner and invites drivers, diners, old-time regulars, and families inside to experience this familiar Albertan object through a new film installation.
Artist Bio: Del Hillier received his BFA at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver. Since then he has participated in residencies at The Banff Centre (2014), The Klondike Institute of Art and Culture in Dawson City, Yukon (2015), as well as an experimental communal living residency entitled Common Opulence hosted by Peter von Tiesenhausen outside of Demmitt, Alberta. In 2016, Hillier exhibited his work at Untitled Arts Society in Calgary and ARTsPLACE Artist-run Centre in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. In the same year, Hiller was awarded The BFA Prize under The Portfolio Prize Award, funded by the 85-5 Artists Foundation.
