This series of magnified internal close ups of flowers reveals the abstract qualities and simplicity that drew Donna Gallant to them. Their bright colours, shapes, smooth or rough textures, lines, the whole design of the internal workings amazed and compelled her to see more and express the vision that relate to their symbolism: the essence of life.
Donna Gallant is a well-known Lethbridge artist that boasts an extensive exhibition history as well as having some of her works included in the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Grande Prairie and many private collections throughout North America, Japan and Europe.
"I like the idea of sectioning the pieces up, sort of a reflection of one’s life. We all have experiences we undergo and when we put them together they form the complete picture of our life. Each single painting or piece becomes an abstract painting by itself, just as our own lives reveal things that may seem abstract or surreal at the time. But in hindsight, it all starts to make sense and we see that we are where we are because of those experiences. It’s like a puzzle that needs to be put together to make sense. "
“I was influenced by Georgia O’Keefe when I was studying art in University and I loved the use of simple, strong and colourful shapes. I still enjoy and love to look at her work." Donna Gallant, June 2018
