A Room of Her Own features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection—the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world. Presented in a single room and guiding visitors with a timeline, this exhibition maps key biographical moments in Carr’s practice, with significant exhibitions, acquisitions, and conservation endeavors that together illustrate how the Gallery and the Carr Collection have shaped one another over the course of a century.
Drawing on the Vancouver Art Gallery Archives, A Room of Her Own explores the historical intersections of the Emily Carr Collection and the Gallery and speculates about possibilities for the future.
