Please Join Us Saturday, April 14, 2-4pmto celebrate the opening of Counterpoint, an exhibition of new works by Erin McSavaney.
McSavaney’s new series is undergirded by a desire to bring together domains usually considered distinct: figuration and abstraction, photography and painting, reality and fiction. From afar, viewers might think they are looking at a photograph; it is up close that they perceive the tiny brush strokes—worthy of photorealist painter Robert Bechtle —that skillfully bring to life the complexity of a plant’s foliage or the subtle effect of light on an exterior wall. The result is a hybrid image that boldly bridges the divide between photorealism and abstraction.
