Yukon Artists at Work (YAAW) is offering a series of downtown art experiences led by practicing Whitehorse-based artists. While the workshops and tours are geared towards visitors, locals are equally welcome to participate.
On Mondays, 5-7 pm, YAAW invites participants for a spot of art before supper. Seven members of Yukon Artists at Work will offer hands-on art workshops in the closed gallery. After enjoying tea and coffee and a short gallery tour, artists will lead participants through a workshop in a variety of media. The groups will be small (no more than eight participants) meaning people will receive lots of individual attention. Each workshop costs $95 plus GST, with variable additional fees for materials depending on the materials used. See list below with topics, dates and total fees.
On Wednesdays, 1-3 pm, artists have prepared walking tours. The Riverside Walking Tour will begin at the Raven Inn on Keish St. The Downtown Walking Tour starts at the YAAW gallery at 4th and Wood. Each group will look at public art together, including some things you might not notice without having them pointed out. The artists leading the tours will share stories behind the arts scene in the Yukon. The tours will include no more than 10 visitors. See the list below for dates and which tours YAAW is offering.
“Yukon Artists At Work has always engaged visitors. We have people come to our gallery from all over the world, and we have great stories to share with them,” reflects Yukon Artists at Work chair Nicole Bauberger. “We know tourists are often looking for new things to do in Whitehorse, and we think these walking tours and art workshops will appeal. We did some test runs with local residents and received very enthusiastic feedback.” Bauberger adds.
Email whitehorseartexperiences@gmail.com for more information or to register. All of the tours and workshops require four participants to run, so YAAW won’t take payment until it has at least that many people signed up.
