Fairies, Fantasy & Folk Tales: 2nd Annual Children's Art Show
2nd Annual Children’s Art Show
Featuring the work of children from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade Six, including home schooled children.
Do you love stories of enchanted woods, fairies, pixies, sprites, wizards and elves? Have you got a favourite fairy or folk tale that you enjoy reading over and over again, fantasy characters that you enjoy pretending to be with your friends, or what magical characters you imagine live in the old growth woods of Royal Roads University?
The Coast Collective is asking children to show us what they love about the amazing world of their imaginations, with a special art exhibit celebrating our region’s youngest emerging artists.
Young artists are called to create a painting, a drawing, a sculpture from clay, or share their vision with combinations of various materials. Groups of children or entire classes are also encouraged to participate in collaborative submissions as well. No art that is made from edible items, please. The Coast Collective is eager to welcome a wide variety of work celebrating fairies, fantasy and folk tales, to be enjoyed in conjunction with our first ever Enchanted Woods Festival at the Coast Collective Art Centre this Mothers’ Day. Each Artist is limited to 4 entries of under 45cm/18” in any dimension, or contact the Coast Collective to discuss other possibilities if you have a special request or unique requirements.
The exhibit’s young artists, their families, and members of the community will be invited to take part in the exhibit’s special reception on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10th. The opening will include awards presentations and an opportunity to listen to tales from two talented local storytellers. The family-friendly Enchanted Woods Festival will also transform the historic Havenwood Estate into an delightful fairy land for people to enjoy. Visitors can also take advantage of the beautiful walk along the trail which connects the Coast Collective and Havenwood with Royal Roads University and the 20th Annual Mother’s Day Paint-in and Craft Fair also taking place May 10th. Make a day of it!
This special show is sponsored by the West Shore Arts Council, BC Arts Council and the Society for Arts on the South Island (SASI).
