"Family Ties "

Genre painting distinguishes itself from religious or historical paintings by focusing on depictions of everyday life, featuring often unknown protagonists in either real, imagined, or romanticized situations. For the month of November we will be highlighting genre scenes that place particular emphasis on the family unit engaged in the everyday tasks and pleasures that bind it together. Highlighted artists will be Francis Coates Jones (American 1857-1932), Edouard Leon Cortes (French 1882-1969) and Bernard Pothast (Dutch 1882-1966). Showing alongside this exhibition is a selection of fine antiques and objet d’art.
