Fiona Ackerman “Little Fluffy Clouds”
Until July 5 | 2025
Rooted in abstraction, Canadian painter, Fiona Ackerman pushes her work in divergent directions, to surprise herself, and keep the possibilities for her painting wide open. Working in series, Ackerman develops a stylistic language specific to the mood or conceptual objectives she is working on. Over the years, Ackerman’s work has seen many different stylistic evolutions. Ackerman sees the arc of her work much like that of an author. Each series is like a new book, different in tone, style and story. But they are all part of a larger archive, and each a meaningful piece of the whole.
In this series, Ackerman explores the sensation of fractured attention and the challenge of finding solace in a world where focus is increasingly elusive. Blending realism, abstraction, and expressionism, these works reflect the shifting landscapes of perception, memory, and presence in an age of constant distraction.
Originally from Montreal, Fiona Ackerman is a painter living and working in Vancouver, BC. Since completing her BFA through Concordia and ECIAD, Fiona has exhibited internationally (Canada, USA, Europe, UK and Asia). She was longlisted for the Sobey Prize in 2015 and received an honourable mention for the Kingston Prize for Canadian Portraiture in 2009. Recent projects include murals in Vancouver, and a commissioned 10 minute video projection for the Facade Festival (Burrard Arts Foundation) which was projected onto the facade of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Her work has been widely collected including Richard Ivey School of Business, Bankhaus Bauer HT, Stuttgart Germany, BMO - Bank of Montreal Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, Aritzia and the Polygon. Fiona has been featured in many print and web publications, most recently the Summer 2023 Issue of NUVO Magazine.
