Fraser Brinsmead, "Edmonton at Night," 2019
PLEASE JOIN FRASER AT THE OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY, APRIL 6 BETWEEN 1 AND 4 PM IN EDMONTON!
The West End Gallery in Edmonton is pleased to present “Edmonton at Night,” a solo exhibition of new works by Fraser Brinsmead opening on Saturday, April 6th between 1pm and 4pm with the artist in attendance. The persistent allure of the imagery of the city is Fraser’s most consistent muse. The buildings loom large, people are reduced to small action figures adding scale and a shared ambivalence about the power of the city that engulfs them. For this exhibition, Fraser pulls inspiration from his home town of Edmonton and many of the buildings he has had a hand in creating during his 36-year long career as an architect.
Edmonton is coming alive with a new vibrancy and livability that is so apparent when you travel the streets and see this city after hours. Bridges are lit up, buildings display a changing rainbow of coloured lights, and outdoor restaurants teem with patrons under outdoor lamps.
With my current art show, “Edmonton at Night” I set out to capture many of my favorite evening places and views. Some images, like the downtown skyline with its striking new Walterdale Bridge and towering skyscrapers have changed dramatically in the past few years. Others, like the iconic Hardware Grille, will be more familiar. I hope you find some of your favorite places in the show. -Brinsmead
Fraser will also be the artist in residence for Gallery Walk, April 13 from 1pm – 4pm.
