The G.A.W.M.Y.S. Art Exhibit: Reflections of Tom Roberts

In 2005, seven professionally trained artist/art educators formulated the G.A.W.M.Y.S. (an acronym for Good Art Won't Match Your Sofa) which exemplifies the philosophy of the group that artists should always maintain their own unique style, medium and artistic voice regardless of external pressures to conform to popular fads, client expectations and even saleability.

The group members included Gloria De Neve, Kathleen Hamann Buckoski, Judith Panson, Francisco (Pancho) Puelles, Tom Roberts, Gina Roth and Erika Uustalu-Nicholson.

Sadly, in May of 2016, we lost our dear friend and fellow GAWMY Tom Roberts to cancer. Tom's passing left a huge hole in our hearts. The decision to exhibit together again evolved in our wish to honour Tom in some way. The exhibition will be diverse as usual and include two and three dimensional works in a variety of media. Each artist will include in their submissions a piece that will reflect their interpretation of Tom as friend and artist.

A portion of the sales from the tribute pieces will be forwarded to the Tom Roberts Memorial Scholarship at the University of Manitoba which promotes art education.
