Opening Reception
Friday March 3rd
7-9pm
The work in this exhibition was created in response to Scoones' father’s death in March of 2016. Throughout his illness and after his passing, she spent time tending to his house and garden. From the presence of him to his absence, she began drawing and photographing his personal effects. It was an orderly enterprise that had a deep quieting effect after the turmoil of illness and of loss. The drawings and paintings she made reflect the things he had around the house at the end of his life, not necessarily precious things but familiar. By reconstructing their substance in the face of there no longer being a physical place for them – the ornaments, the clothing, the contents of desk drawers – Scoones has transformed his effects into a new chapter of his life and consequently of her own.
