Glimmers Of The Radiant Real: Broadbent Sisters, Catherine Telford-Keogh, Cole Swanson, Daniel Griffin Hunt, Katie Bethune-Leamen, Mary Pratt, Sanaz Mazinani, Sandy Plotnikoff, Xiaojing Yan.
An exhibition featuring Canadian artists for whom surface is an integral element of the work. In the works featured in this exhibition, radiance is subverted by the relationship between the quality of a surface and what it covers, reflects, or contains: gilded insect wings sketch a house’s morbid geography, material treatments upend expectations of form and colour, and dollar-store detritus cocooned in resin seems to glow behind glass. The works glimmer, sparkle, and shine, revealing far more than just their surface value.
Organized and circulated by The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, in collaboration with the Art Gallery of Peterborough and the McIntosh Gallery. Curated by Sam Mogelonsky and Ruth Jones.
Sponsorship provided by Partners in Art, Burgundy Asset Management, Ridgewood Capital Asset Management, Canada Council for the Arts, and Ontario Arts Council.
