Throughout history the human figure as a subject, has played an important role in art from early cave paintings, through the many centuries and art periods including the Greek Classical period, the Renaissance, Impressionism, Expressionism and Modernism. Although the role of the figure in art has changed over the centuries, artists continue to investigate the subject, and express and explore the human condition.
