Arnold Shives, 'Vancouver Sunflower,' 1994, linocut on paper, 47.0 cm x 34.4 cm, City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection, gift of Morris Langer.
The Burnaby Art Gallery is excited to announce its summer exhibition, "Golden Hour," running from June 13 to August 31, 2025.
Used in photography and painting to illustrate the radiant effects of the sun when it is near the horizon, the term “golden hour” describes the way light shifts to warmer tones just before sunset, and just after sunrise. This exhibition shares views of landscape, light and luminosity from multiple perspectives, investigating the cyclical nature of day to night, beginnings and endings.
Curated by the entire Burnaby Art Gallery team, this exhibition showcases the City of Burnaby’s Permanent Art Collection through the eyes of those who create the gallery’s public programs, interact with the collection and visitors, and care for the historic building.
The exhibition showcases works by Vikky Alexander, Gillian Armitage, Joan Bell-Irving, Marcel Dzama, Gathie Falk, J.C. Heywood, Salme Kaljur, lessLIE, Edna Myers, Hiromi Nakatsugawa, Mary Pratt, Gita Teearu, Arnold Shives, and more.
The exhibition includes audio guides for accessibility.
