Hamza Walker: FRIDAY NIGHT TALKS
to
The Polygon Gallery 101 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver, British Columbia V7M 3J4
American curator and writer Hamza Walker responds to the work in Susan Hiller’s exhibition Altered States, in particular her five-channel video installation Psi Girls. Walker will discuss the artistic milieus amongst which this work emerged, especially the practices of international media artists. He will reflect on Hiller’s selection of source material, including 1970s movies and a field recording of a gospel choir, and draw upon concepts he has explored in his own curatorial work.
Hamza Walker is the Executive Director of LAXART in Los Angeles, was the co-curator of Made In LA 2017, and is the recipient of several distinguished awards for contributions to the field of exhibition-making and art writing.
