Hausmärchen is an exploration of intergenerational relationships, trauma, and German-Canadian culture. Drawing from her grandmother’s experiences as a displaced German citizen at the end of the Second World War, Richter’s detailed sculptures reference Germanic fairy tales and explore the effect of trauma and anxiety on intergenerational relationships and her own relationship with her grandmother.
Jess Richter is an MFA candidate at the University of Regina. Her practice includes print media, papercutting, and lasercutting and is influenced by Prairie Gothic and German-Canadian culture. This exhibition is presented in partnership with the University of Regina. Special thank you to Stockdale Electric Motor Corporation.
