Reception: Thursday, January 11, 5:00 pm, Slate Gallery, 2078 Halifax Street
Over the past ten years, Regina-based artist Heather Cline has been quietly gathering stories from residents of communities across Canada, collecting personal and regional histories. Through a series of artist residency projects and public engagements, Cline interviewed diverse subjects, including farmers on combines in rural Manitoba, fruit growers in Vernon, British Columbia, and school children in Ardrossan, Alberta. The interviews inspired Cline to paint different geographical locations, connecting with the subject matter through other people’s experiences of place. Audio excerpts from the artist’s interviews are interspersed amongst the paintings to create a rich and intimate audience experience.
Additional selections from the Quiet Stories series will be exhibited at Slate Fine Art Gallery from January 11 to February 24. Slate is pleased to host the reception for Quiet Stories on Thursday, January 11, from 5:00-8:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
