Opening Reception: May 8 at 6:30 pm
The Art Gallery of St. Albert is pleased to once again present a popular exhibition that showcases the incredible artistic talent of students from St. Albert’s high schools.
For 30 years, the hard work and achievement of art students has been celebrated in the High Energy exhibition. Each May it takes over the gallery, filling the walls, plinths and windows with works created by artists in grade 10, 11 and 12.
“Over the past 30 iterations, thousands of students have taken part and each year, the students bring their best,” says Art Gallery of St. Albert’s Curator, Emily Baker.
And this year will be no different. More than 100 students from four of St. Albert’s high schools will showcase more than 120 pieces. “Their work is fueled by their experiences, perspectives, joys, fears and curiosity. Through the artwork, we get a look into their world, a brief and precious chance to see it on their terms,” Baker adds.
But it wouldn’t be High Energy without the exciting annual Challenge Project. This year’s theme: Look Up and Marvel! Students have been asked to stretch their creativity skyward to create dramatic suspended artworks. This challenge will push the students’ technical skills, engineering and ingenuity. The pieces will float over visitors’ heads, viewable only from below, and leaving them with a sense of wonder.
