Humour as Medicine
Circles of Spirit, Mirth and Medicine | Nov. 20 | Noon-3 P.M.
We all need a little self-examination now and then, right?
Join Susan Landell for this amazing workshop where you will explore what makes you happy and how to get more joy out of life by looking through the lens of the Medicine Wheel and the Sacred Circle.
In this workshop, participants will take a guided tour through the Campbell River Art Gallery's current exhibition, Humour As Medicine, followed by a discussion about the Medicine Wheel itself and some self-reflection about what makes you happy and lifts your spirit.
Participants will then create their own Sacred Circles that reflect what they've discovered about themselves using paints and collage! All supplies will be provided!
Oh, and there will also be pizza for lunch!
Tickets for this wonderful workshop are only $10, but there are a limited number of bursaries available to those who need financial assistance, as we endeavour to make all of our programs barrier-free! Contact the gallery for more information.
The workshop is limited to 10 participants, so make sure you register to save your spot!
Opening Reception and Artist Talks
Please join us in the Main Gallery on Thursday, October 7 at 5 p.m. for the Opening Reception, and/or the following day Friday October 8 at 5 p.m. for a "Talk & Tour" of the exhibition with the artists as they explore their work, discuss why it matters and how it makes a difference.
Humour as Medicine presents contemporary Indigenous artists Sonny Assu (Ligwiłda’xwnjik), Lori Blondeau (Cree/Salteaux/Metis), Hjalmer Wenstob (Nuu-chah-nulth) from the prairies and west coast that addresses how humour can be a powerful coping mechanism for trauma and emotional distress. Underpinning the show is the goal to explore humour as a tool for healing, activism, and open communication.
