Artist Bio : I am Ibrahim, originally from Nigeria, now living on Treaty 1 Territory (Winnipeg). As a self-taught artist much of my inspiration comes from my obsession with balancing the burst of chaos and flow of tranquillity in myself. I try to walk myself through existentialism and simplifying the whats, whys, and hows of life. As simple as that may sound I find that understanding these things plays a big role in easing the difficulty of our journeys. I explored many ways of self-expression over the years and found art as my most stable form of expression. I love to experiment and push the limits of any medium I choose to work with. My works tend to speak on topics most people shy away from; I implore the use of direction and misdirection in my art.
Artist Statement: I work in abstraction and push my limits in a way that stretches the expectation of the materials I work with. My art conveys existential questions and concerns. Through a process of experimentation, I find my own ways of self-expression that break down categorical barriers between genres of art as well as individuals. My work evokes emotions within the viewer through the authentic use of objects that are imbued with the artist's heart and touch. Their works fully embodies and pushes towards an indeterminate future. The use of synthetic materials to underscore the unity of human experience, stating that even in an unnatural, urban world; empathy, truth and multiple realities exist, that further accentuate the value and necessity of the human experience.
