Immigration: A Conversation

Two Rivers Gallery 725 Canada Games Way, Prince George, British Columbia V2L 5T1
Immigration: A Conversation is a group exhibition highlighting the work of Sorour Abdollahi, Aileen Bahmanipour, Lea Bucknell, José Delgado-Guevara, Gabriela Hirt, Mohadese Movahed, Rana Sahraei, and Yvonne Vander Kooi. This exhibition, comprising work from artists throughout British Columbia, explores the many ways that immigration can alter the lives of those who experience it for not only years, but generations to come.
While this show shares the work of artists based throughout British Columbia, two of the artists are local to Prince George. José Delgado-Guevara, who has a drawing and a sculpture featured in the exhibition, is also an accomplished classical violinist and a musician of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. Rana Sahraei lends her skills as a local graphic designer to this exhibition by sharing her mixed media work. Other artists in this show hail from the Slocan Valley to Vancouver Island and many places in between.
The artworks in this exhibition are as diverse as the stories of the artists from whom they come. Large scale paintings in fluorescent hues hang alongside delicate but powerful illustrations that cascade from the ceiling to the floor. Immigration: A Conversation aims to provoke an understanding and appreciation of the many different lived experiences of not just the artists represented, but the countless individuals who have experienced immigration. When describing this show, Assistant Curator Kait Herlehy said, “I hope more than anything that this exhibition can be the beginning of a conversation in Prince George about the way that immigration has shaped the lives of our neighbours. The goal, today and always, is to build a stronger connection within our community.”
Please join us at Two Rivers Gallery for an opening reception on Thursday, August 4th at 7:30pm with remarks at 7:45pm.
Some of the artists featured in this group exhibition will be in attendance to have informal discussions about their work.
Art Activity
Join us for a community art activity in collaboration with the Immigrant & Multicultural Services Society. We invite you to paint a canvas that celebrates where you come from and the land on which you live, all while making meaningful connections with other community members. At the end of the activity, all artworks will be photographed and made into a digital community mural. This free event is open to the public and will take place at Two Rivers Gallery on Sunday, August 21st from 1pm - 4pm.
