“Ghost Dance 2020 is an echo of the original Ghost Dance of the late 19th century, but with a difference. Originally a Messianic cultural movement, the Ghost Dance was introduced in the late 1800s as a means to challenge forced assimilation, loss of lands and loss of culture among Indigenous tribes in North America. Wovoka, a Paiute Holy Man, envisioned the reclamation of his culture by dancing continuously to rid the people of this oppression. Today the dance continues, but it is danced for reconciliation.” - Jane Ash Poitras
