For the time being, we are also willing to facilitate in-person visitors by appointment. If you would like to arrange an appointment to visit the gallery, please email gallery@artplacement.com or call 306-664-3385 during regular gallery hours.
Art Placement is pleased to present Jane Harington’s first solo exhibition at the gallery. Harington is a Saskatoon-based painter known for her luscious and painterly style. She works in oils combining thick paint and fluid brush work with vibrant colour. Inspired by the natural world, Harington moves beyond the appearances of things to instead focus on the sensations and emotions associated with objects and places. Born on the Falkland Islands, Harington has lived in Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and England before she moved to Canada with her family in 1991. Her art education began in Saskatoon where she studied under several local artists before completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Saskatchewan in 2004. Her work has been shown in group and solo shows in cities across the province, and is included in private collections in Canada, the United States, Britain, and South Africa, as well as the collection of the University of Saskatchewan.
Artist Statement:
These works are about a sense of belonging - an exploration of the known and the now and the affinity for place.
I explore the layering of lives, the community of people and place and where we belong within that space.
We all carry our landscapes around with us. They are our guides as we strive to find our place - to belong.
- Jane Harington, February 2020
