Ivanno Macci, Jeff Wilson, 2018

This exhibition brings together works by Jeff Wilson and Ivanno Macci. Wilson’s work draws together a series of acrylic paintings to examine our use of modern seagoing vessels. Ivanno Macci creates unique sculptural pieces made from wood found drifting in the cold waters of the northern pacific.

Wilson’s vibrant pieces are immediately recognizable because of their strong colours, and, his ability to capture light within paintings. He is interested in our relationship to the sea and this series of work examines how we use seagoing vessels for transportation, food production, tourism, and industrial purposes.

Jeff Wilson was born in 1969 in Edinburgh, Scotland, trained as a structural geologist and has worked in mineral exploration around the world, settling in Vancouver in 2004. 

Wilson has exhibited widely across British Columbia, Alberta and Washington State, including shows at Gibsons Public Art Gallery, the Smithers Art Gallery, the ACT Gallery, Okotoks Art Gallery, Bellingham City Hall and the UW Law School in Seattle.

Ivanno Macci is an Italian, Columbian and Canadian sculptor. Macci creates unique artworks that are inspired by, and embrace nature and the human imagination. His strong, abstract forms are all sensitively created with the environment in mind, incorporating marble and other used and recycled material. The series represents a singular and inventive approach to modern and contemporary art, embracing nature, mechanical tools and modern technology.
