Two artists Jenny Bailie and Kellie Hampton investigate the nature of abstraction from two unique vantage points. Using the outdoors as her muse and starting point, Rossland’s Jenny Bailie’s acrylic paintings offer the viewer vibrant colourful art in a distinct abstract style. While the work begins in the perceptual appreciation of the outdoors, her paintings embrace an adventurous creative spirit that is cleary evident in the end result.
Kellie Hampton emphasizes the physical act and spontaneity of painting, large swatchs of paint are moved around her large canvases. Her medium is acrylic, rarely using a paint brush, Kellie's textural, bold, unique style captures emotion on canvas. These works feature a minimalist palette, the gesture is everything, drawing inspiration from the abstract expressionists and action painters of the past.
