The Art on Demand 3.4 exhibition presents artwork by Jessica Peatman and Kristin Voth, both of whom grew up in the Fraser Valley, and is curated by Katherine Searle. Peatman is from Langley, and recently graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Voth is from Abbotsford and graduated from Trinity Western University before attending Regent College where she completed a Masters in Arts in Theology.
Curator Katherine Searle, who is currently studying fine art at UFV, has selected works of art that address the concept of childhood. For both artists, the photograph is foundational to their imagery, though neither is exactly a photographer. Using mediums that range from graphite, to photo-etching, to acrylic paint, Peatman and Voth refuse to romanticize or oversimplify the experience of childhood. Instead, there is a brutal honesty in their work that addresses those times during which reality overrules imagination and fantasy; when pieces of childhood are left behind. Don’t miss the chance to celebrate the opening of this sensitive and insightful exhibition, which runs until December 31, 2017 at The Reach.
Art on Demand is an exhibition series that provides emerging artists and arts professionals with the opportunity to develop exhibition and curatorial skills as part of the Emerge program which is generously sponsored by the RBC Emerging Artists Project Grant. Established in 2015, Emerge is a membership-based creative incubator that offers exciting professional development activities to aspiring curators and artists between the ages of 18-35.
