Gibson Fine Art is proud to present City & Story: The Art of Place, an exhibition of new works by Jill Thomson alongside the book launch for the expanded third edition of Calgary’s Best Walks by Lori Beattie.
Jill Thomson’s vibrant, collage-like paintings explore the intersections of private and public life, weaving figures, buildings, gardens, and streetscapes into layered compositions that evoke a sense of belonging, memory, and the joy of home. Drawing inspiration from her prairie childhood, urban experiences in Montreal, and life as a mother and artist in Edmonton, Thomson’s work is a tribute to the communities that shape us.
Lori Beattie’s celebrated walking guide, Calgary’s Best Walks, features one of Thomson’s paintings on its cover. The expanded edition highlights 95 of the city’s most engaging routes—urban jaunts, nature strolls, and hidden gems—celebrating Calgary’s diverse and vibrant neighborhoods.
Join us on Saturday, May 3 at Gibson Fine Art to experience a unique convergence of art and storytelling. Meet the artist, explore her latest collection, and celebrate the launch of a book that invites us to see our city with fresh eyes.
