John F. Ross’s new exhibition “The Town Across the Tracks” pursues a conceptual departure from the tradition of the landscape, introducing the viewer to a new way of observing the land. His simplification of symbolic forms and the physicality of painting create a platform with which he seeks to retell the western landscape story. His goal is to create paintings that, in the footsteps of the European Symbolists, emphasize the meaning behind line, shape, and subject.
