Zoom Artist Talk with John Horton, Saturday, March 27 at 3:00 pm PST. Join Here
Join us for an afternoon of art discussion with John Horton on Saturday, March 27 at 3:00 pm. Horton was born in England and joined the Royal Navy as a young man. After two years of service, Horton was hired by a shop fitting company in London where he was mentored by Vic Barber, a talented artist who he met while working at the company. In 1966, Horton immigrated to Vancouver where he found much inspiration for his maritime paintings. He worked aboard his floating studio, a 35-foot fishing boat, which he used to explore British Columbia’s coastlines and build upon his extensive portfolio.
The artist talk will follow with 20-minute questions and answers.
To mark the beginning of spring 2021, Winchester Galleries will display works by John Horton on the upper level of the gallery. Horton’s lifelong fascination with the sea is readily apparent in his maritime-themed paintings.

Horton’s commitment to the historical and technical accuracy of his works has remained unparalleled. To achieve such precision, Horton relies on tried-and-true methods of construction. Being the perfectionist that he is, Horton admits that he is “never satisfied” with his final products.
As a result of his fervent dedication to his craft, Horton’s works are highly coveted by galleries, museums, and private collections internationally.
